We all have principles, ethics and morals that guide our beliefs and behavior, and a principle that we at Roberts Manor very strongly believe in is a complete boycott of beers brewed and owned by the corporate bastard InBev. You know who they are: currently, they are the World's biggest brewer, and it's well documented that they have a ruthless track record of buying breweries and then closing them down. Just look at what they tried to do with the Hoegaarden Brewery (qv) ! The bastards even came to my town (when they were known as Interbrew) of Cheltenham and closed down the Whitbread brewery. Not that Whitbread were angels in the brewing industry, but I remember as a lad going to watch Cheltenham Town FC and if the wind was blowing the right way, you could smell the brewery at work. Cor, smashing ! But, those days are gone -- however, we at the Manor have made a stand (cue The Stand, by The Alarm), thus we hold a boycott of all InBev bullshit. None of the income from our estate is going to be used to prop up the InBev global empire. By the way, check out their website -- all they do is talk about "branding" and sales. Very sad. Where's the 'effing passion, as my mate would say ? Here's a list of some of the more common InBev beers that will not be gracing the forecourt at The Manor: Hoegaarden (replace it with Celis White); Labatt's; Leffe; Boddington's (a proud ale completely ruined by InBev); Bass Ale (not so much a Pale Ale, but a pale shadow of its former self); Stella Artois (their attempt to enforce lager upon the world); Beck's (read Stella Artois); Tennent's (pride of Scotland ? more like pride of Belgium !). Let it be clear that guests to The Manor can drink what they like; ourselves and our staff will not enforce our values upon our dear guests -- but for our part, we stand by our principles. And if you don't have principles, then what do you have ? I'll tell you, you have NOTHING ! Here's to the small and independent brewer -- long may you reign, free from corporate lowlife. Cheers ! |
